Calm, Secure and Connected -
A Course in Co-Regulation
With Mark Tanaka

In this course, we will be exploring the art of generating the inner experience of calmness and secure attachment through developing an understanding of co-regulation processes. Co-regulation is the art of skillfully using human connection to calm, balance, and heal our nervous systems. Co-regulation should be a natural way of supporting one another into calm and ease that many of us have lost connection to. It is a skill that can be developed through practice which can create profound shifts in our ability to self-regulate our nervous system, support others and improve our relationships.
Co-regulation experiences play an instrumental role in helping us feel open, relaxed, and vibrant. It optimizes our nervous system and endocrine system. Co-regulation is also the foundation for self-regulation - or the ability to calm and balance our own nervous system. Deeper inner child healing work depends largely on self-regulation capacities we develop through co-regulation experiences.
The course will introduce people to the basic principles of co-regulation and how to engage in co-regulating activity and also instruct people in the art of applying these experiences for regulating their own nervous systems and helping others around them. This allows us to develop the skillsets necessary to further our own inner healing and support others in theirs.

What Others Are Saying About This Work
Developing a Healthy Sense of Self
"Before seeing Mark, I had exhausted almost every form of clinical psychotherapy and support. I was open to trying a new way or understanding of support. Mark began to see me at one of the most vulnerable times in my life and was patient with me as we moved through my different parts and introduced attachment and internal family systems work to me. Mark is dedicated to his clients and I have felt a sense of commitment from Mark as we move through challenging fixed beliefs, insecure attachment and different parts. He is both gentle and encouraging; knowing when to create space and when to give more guidance. Through my work with Mark, I have been able to begin developing a healthy sense of self and make steady progress. I am incredibly grateful for Mark's continued support and kindness." -R.G.
Transform Reactions Into Spaciousness
"Working with Mark on attachment repair and nervous system regulation shifted how I handle challenging and overwhelming situations that occur in my life. With the growing awareness and tools he provided and nurtured within me, I was able to transform reactions that once ruined my days and clouded my perspective. I can now be in very uncomfortable realities outside and inside and respond with so much more spaciousness, curiosity and possibility of how to stay present and loving." -H.R.
A New & Powerful Way to Be With Others
"Mark's ability to listen and meet me where I'm at has impacted me greatly in terms of initiating the healing process within me and teaching me a new and powerful way to be with others. He's able to convey ideas and processes in an easy, linear and light-hearted way which has always helped me understand his lessons and not get lost. He's also quite spectacular at guiding practical exercises to help students or clients experience and embody the information and concepts he shares. He is a well of knowledge and experience and it's obvious that what he shares comes from a place of deep understanding within himself. I've been studying and working with Mark for a couple years now and am just so grateful for every single opportunity I have to be in the same space with him." -N.J.
About Your Presenter, Mark Tanaka

I am a teacher and coach that specializes in helping people with nervous system regulation, somatic attachment / developmental trauma repair, and inner child work. I have a unique and diverse background in 25 years of Eastern self-healing and self-regulation practices such as yoga, qigong, meditation, and Buddhist practice. I also have training in progressive western body-based psychology approaches such as Adult Attachment Repair Method (AARM) and Parts Work that I integrate into my sessions.
For the past 5 years, I have especially focused on coaching people on how to address the cumulative traumas and habits that form in the body and mind from early childhood trauma. I’ve found ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) to be central in most people’s challenges in health, self-esteem, relationships and career.
My approach is unique and multifaceted in that I integrate my understanding and wisdom from Eastern traditional practices with a strongbody-based approach. Most chronic trauma like ACEs require a somatic approach that helps to shift the pattern inside the felt experience of the body and nervous system. I help people become empowered in managing their nervous system stress as well as their inner child wounding so they can become the best, mature and most alive version of themselves.
